Learning from the IFLA trend report

IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) released its ‘Trend report’ in 2013. The companion document ‘Riding the waves or caught in the tide? Insights from the IFLA trend report’ is just as relevant as it was when the report was first released.

The Library and information services sector is continually changing and the IFLA Trend Report identified five top level trends which will play a key role in shaping the information industry.
  • New technologies will both expand and limit who has access to information.
  • Online education will democratise and disrupt global learning.
  • The boundaries of privacy and data protection will be redefined.
  • Hyper-connected societies will listen to and empower new voices and groups.
  • The global information environment will be transformed by new technologies.
Even if you have read through the information on the IFLA website, I would recommend you re-familiarise yourself with the insights document it’s something we need to consider when looking at the future of libraries and the services we provide.

ALLA National Board - Nominations Open

ALLA members would have received an email from Emma Joneshart, President of ALLA Ltd regarding a call for nominations for members to join the ALLA Ltd Board of Directors. Nominations will be voted upon at the ALLA AGM, held on Thursday 23 September during the ALLA Virtual Conference 2021 . The ALLA Ltd Board of Directors is an important part of the Australian Law Librarians' Association's governance. Made up of at least eight members of ALLA, nominations are open for the following positions:  Vice President Secretary Treasurer Vendor Relations CPD Coordinator General Directors The Vice President position is for a term of 3 years, consisting of a year each as Vice President, President and Past President.
