Catalogue for the new Law Library

The Department of the Attorney General has updated their website so that it now includes the library catalogue of the Law Library at the David Malcolm Justice Centre. You can access the library catalogue here.

The Law Library at the David Malcolm Justice Centre is at 28 Barrack Street and is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am - 5pm. It is closed on public holidays. The Library is for the judiciary, government legal officers and members of the legal profession, and so it is not open to the public.

Just Launched: ALLA Connect

It's time to get connected.

Last Week, ALLA Ltd. launched ALLA Connect, a program to provide members across the nation an opportunity to share ideas and build networks.

The first program will run from 1 February to 31 May 2017.

By joining the program, you can connect in a variety of ways to discuss a range of topics that you are passionate about, including:

  • Business & Industry Intelligence
  • Careers & Career Development
  • Collection Management
  • Corporate Governance
  • Current Awareness
  • Ebooks & Everything 'e'
  • Intranets & Information Design
  • Knowledge Management
  • Legal Industry
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Training and eLearning

ALLA Connect gives you an opportunity to connect with members in two ways:

  • one-on-one: the project team will connect you with an ALLA member in another division who has similar interests to you. Throughout the progam, the team will send you and your connection 'discussion sparks' to help keep the conversation flowing.
  • interest groups: Hosted on Trello, the interest groups will give members the opportunity to share articles, comment and connect with other members on topics of their choice.
Remember the two are not mutually exclusive. You can choose to connect in one or both ways.

The program is only available to members. Applications to be a part of ALLA Connect close on 20 December 2016.

More details about the program are available at http://www.alla.asn.au/alla-connect

There is a small prize for the most innovative name* with the winner to be announced at the End of Year Celebration on Wednesday 30th November 2016.

A big thank you to FIRST Software Solutions for sponsoring this project.

*The name needs to be unique in order to register the domain name.

Recording Now Available: Collaborate and Learn - Community, Contributing, Career - Using Linkedin For Law Librarians

Did you miss this Tuesday's ALLA Webinar?

A recording of Alison Jones' fantastic talk  Community, contributing, career - Using LinkedIn for Law Librarians is now available for members.

What the webinar is about

The key take away message from many management articles on LinkedIn is that regular and thoughtful use of LinkedIn will lead to an avalanche of job offers.

But is there more to LinkedIn being a glorified space in which to park your CV? Is it worthwhile taking the risk and making time to contribute to LinkedIn?

This webinar looks at LinkedIn from the perspective of:
  • Community – using LinkedIn as a space to build a virtual community of fellow professionals around you, for both networking and learning purposes;
  • Contributing – how making well defined and consistent contributions to LinkedIn improves the experience of your community on LinkedIn and can in turn broaden that community; and
  • Career – how thoughtful use of LinkedIn can lead to a wide range of professional opportunities and experiences

We Thank: Alison for sharing her knowledge, and ALLA Ltd for organising this webinar.
